Nissen, BBI, 1149.
First edition. Alphonse Lavallée (1797-1873) was the founder of the École Centrale des Arts et Manufactures in Paris. His son (1835-1884), who bore the same name, described specimens grown in his own arboretum at Segrez in his fine book on clematis. The extensive collection contained not only European plants but also American ones. The beautiful plates are lithographed from life by B. Bergeron. Some occasional foxing. A very good copy.
