Precious collection of all issues of the Journal de Paris, organ of the constitutional party during the Revolution, or of its Supplément containing, under the title of "Variété", an article by André Chénier, signed or anonymous. As early as 1790, André Chénier was enthusiastic about the Revolution. In 1791, considering that the revolutionary thrust had been exhausted, he sided with the feuillants, the aristocracy and the liberal bourgeoisie. Unfortunately, his articles criticising the excesses of the Revolution and calling for moderation brought him to the attention of the future masters of France: his attacks on the Jacobins – Robespierre and Marat in particular – will never be forgotten, nor his stance in favour of Chateauvieux's Swiss (Affaire de Nancy).
Collation identical to the one given by Lucien Scheler in his notes in Tchemerzine, for 1791 : Journal n° 316, 12 Nov. – For 1792 : Supplements n° 14, 19, 25, 32, 35, 38 & 41 (12 Feb.-4 April). – Journal n° 101 (10 April). – Supplément n° 48 (3 April). – Journal n° 106 (15 April). – Suppléments n° 60, 62, 66, 69, 70, 83, 89bis, 100, 104 & 107 (29 April-10 July). – Journal n° 203 & 209 (21-27 July). – Two weeks after the publication of the last issue, Chénier left Paris (10 August 1792), having been harassed for his political stance. The carefully compiled volume contains a pencil note by Lucien Scheler: "Collection complète des articles publiés par André Chénier dans le Journal de Paris".
