Heir to the Mercure galant, the Mercure de France dedicated to the king took over from it in 1724 and set out to publish the finest pieces of literature of the time.
This June 1747 edition contains in particular a Dissertation sur l'électricité, a Lettre à une jeune homme qui entre dans le monde by M.E.D.L.C. conseiller au parlement, verses Sur le bonheur by the abbot Porquet and an Eglogue by François Boyer (1677-1755).
A COPY BEARING THE ARMS OF THE QUEEN OF FRANCE MARIE LESZCZYNSKA (1703-1768)
The queen seems to have had a particular affection for the Mercure de France, and many copies, whose binding is similar to ours, can be found.
A good copy, binding somewhat rubbed, the music plate torn.
