Garrison & Morton, 4165.02 ; N.L.M., 116.
First edition published by Bichat, Desault's pupil. The great surgeon Pierre-Joseph Desault (1744-1795) was one of the first professors at the École Pratique de Chirurgie in Paris. Chief surgeon at the Hôtel-Dieu hospital in 1788, he founded the first surgical clinic there. He set up a dissection room at the hospital where he taught anatomy and practical surgery.
"He made many suggestions regarding the treatment of fractures and dislocations and is one of the founders of modern vascular surgery" (Garrison-Morton).
He was an innovator in the treatment of aneurysms (G.M., 2927), and was also one of the pioneers of urological surgery "and was one of the first to have a clear understanding of urological disease" (G.M., 4165.02).
Minor loss to the head of volume 1 spine, but a fine copy.
