First edition. Pellier de Quengsy (1751-1835) was one of the first to use an artificial cornea (kerato-prosthesis). As early as 1789, he raised the possibility of replacing a diseased cornea with a synthetic one, a project that is still in development today. In his book, Pellier de Quengsy imagines an artificial cornea made from a fragment of glass placed in a silver ring and sutured to the sclera using cotton threads. It is illustrated with plates describing the instruments required and the technique envisaged.
