First edition of the works of the German mathematician, a pupil of Gauss and Jacobi. Dirichlet continued Gauss's work, particularly on the theory of partial differential equations, the theory of periodic series and determinate integrals, and on number theory.
This edition, given by his pupil L. Kronecker, includes a biography of Dirichlet by E. Kummer, correspondence with Gauss, Kronecker and Humboldt, and unpublished posthumous papers.
