During his studies in France, he was taught by the great jurisconsults Hotman, Baudoin, and Cujas, then by Alciat and Socin in Italy, before taking up the bar in Paris in November 1549. The first two volumes contain his <em>Lettres sur l&#039;histoire de la France<\/em>, the interest of which lies &quot;in the curiosity, breadth and strength of his mind&quot; (see Grente).<\/p>\n<p>The text of the first volume is decorated with a portrait of Pasquier engraved by Gaultier in 1617. The <em>Oeuvres m&ecirc;l&eacute;es<\/em>, collected in the last volume, begin with the <em>Monophile<\/em>, a treatise &quot;in dialogue on love, between three young men and a young lady. marriage, fidelity, love and its essence; the question of the pre-eminence of the man or the woman is discussed&quot; (see Grente). The treatise is followed by the <em>Colloque d&#039;amour<\/em>, the <em>Lettres amoureuses<\/em> and other opuscules (<em>Jeux po&eacute;tiques; La Puce ou Jeux po&eacute;tiques<\/em>). The last piece, <em>Oeuvre po&eacute;tique sur la main<\/em>, is illustrated with Pasquier&#039;s portrait engraved by Thomas de Leu.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Fine edition of the <em>Letters<\/em> of which Grente indicates that the posthumous editions are the most complete.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Volume I, pp. 307\/308 with tear old restored, slightly touching the text.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align:justify\">Nice copy, well bound at the time.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align:justify\">3 volumes, 8vo (166 x 103 mm) 12 nn.ll., 843 pp., 27 nn.ll.
